I'm getting really tired of having tired skin.
I looked in the mirror today and my pores are huge and my skin is dry.

But luckily, I found a new hobby.
Homemade hair, face, + body masks!
Save money on expensive products by using inexpensive produce.

The first experiment went well!
My skin is so happy!

This was tonight's menu--



Hair and Face

1 egg -short hair; 2 eggs-long hair
(no yolk just whites)

1 avocado (mashed up)

mix the two togehter (not the most attractive looking mixture)
then, rub into skin and hair - the egg whites will become stiff.
leave the mixture on for about 30 min or so.
Rinse normally.

Egg whites will shrink your pores and help hair with shine.
Avocado is best for its natural oils. Very nutritious with vitamin E for skin as well as moisturizing.

Body Scrub

For dry itchy wintery skin- Try this sugar scrub.

1 cup of sugar (brown or white)
1/2 of a Lemon
2 tablespoons of olive oil or sesame oil
5 tablespoons of honey

Mix together in a small bowl.
Apply in the shower and scrub gently to exfoliate.
Rinse.


Sugar is used for exfoliation-
but it is very gentle and melts away with water so you can control your texture.
Lemon is for deep cleaning of the pores. Removes dirt and oil.
Olive/Sesame Oil is great for moisturizing the skin.
Honey works like a conditioner, and the waxy consistency helps protect skin.

these cement blocks were found in an alley way-
and flowers were picked in a yard (sorry).
And then i mod podged 'em so they would be pretty forever.

i found a big stick and i love it hanging on my wall..
i attached some feathers..
but i wanna add some knitted scraps.

yes.. this is my saturday night.

mini quilts !

Why are mini quilts so popular - here are just a few reasons:

1. Quilting can be intimidating - however the small format of the mini quilt means they are a much more attainable goal and the perfect way to gain some quilting confidence

2. Mini Quilts are a great way to use up scraps but also perfect to use your fancy expensive small pieces of fabric

3. Many people don't have the time or patience to finish a large quilt but as they love quilting a mini quilt is an achievable project. They are perfect for those with short attention spans.

4. Mini quilts are the perfect way to hone your quilting skills and test out new techniques

Mini quilts are very popular at the moment - there are flickr doll quilt swaps and mini quilt weekly memes and themes. Quilters and crafters just love showcasing their latest mini project - where they have been able to work through a design concept, or trial a new technique within a short time frame and get feedback from their peers. I blame the internet for the current mini quilt craze - which has turned out to have more longevity than a simple craft fad. As more and more crafters discover the art of quilting and find the satisfaction that can be gained from sewing bits of fabric to other bits of fabric and adding their creative personality to the piece, they are able to grow in confidence and try new things - I just don't see this going away any time too soon.

I collect things all the time.
I should start saving and organizing.. it could become a new project!

Or I could use my collected items to make things...
Like cardboard boxes to make a new office space!

This was my valentines card to my boy.
I used a white t-shirt and cut out an 8 x 10 piece.
I sewed with red and blue string to make the
white fabric look like a piece of notebook paper.
Its a forever card.. way cooler than Hallmark I think!

diy- how to make a pillowcase

I made these pillows for a Valentines Day present for my boyfriend.
I picked a King and a Castle because he loves chess.
Needlework is very easy and fun!

I got these pillows at Target.. 2 for $7.99- perfect size for couch or bed pillows.
The pillow cases are from a thrift store 2 for $1.50- washed of course!
First step is measuring out the fit of the fabric.

I made pin marks where the pillows line up to and tried to center it.

Don't sew the pillow together yet!
Next.. find a print out of what you'd like to stitch.
It could be a drawing as well.

Draw an outline in a WASHABLE marker.
Any extra details you want to stitch just draw on the pillowcase.

Next you'll need an embroidery loom.
I actually lucked out and got a pack of them at a thrift store for really cheap.
But any craft store should sell them.
Make sure you pull the fabric tight once you line it all up.

And its as simple as hand stitching all around until the outline doesn't show.
Then I threw it in the wash to take the washable marker off.
You can put your pillow together with either a zipper or an over fold.
I made an over fold in the middle of the back.
