I'm getting really tired of having tired skin.
I looked in the mirror today and my pores are huge and my skin is dry.

But luckily, I found a new hobby.
Homemade hair, face, + body masks!
Save money on expensive products by using inexpensive produce.

The first experiment went well!
My skin is so happy!

This was tonight's menu--

Hair and Face

1 egg -short hair; 2 eggs-long hair
(no yolk just whites)

1 avocado (mashed up)

mix the two togehter (not the most attractive looking mixture)
then, rub into skin and hair - the egg whites will become stiff.
leave the mixture on for about 30 min or so.
Rinse normally.

Egg whites will shrink your pores and help hair with shine.
Avocado is best for its natural oils. Very nutritious with vitamin E for skin as well as moisturizing.

Body Scrub

For dry itchy wintery skin- Try this sugar scrub.

1 cup of sugar (brown or white)
1/2 of a Lemon
2 tablespoons of olive oil or sesame oil
5 tablespoons of honey

Mix together in a small bowl.
Apply in the shower and scrub gently to exfoliate.
Rinse.

Sugar is used for exfoliation-
but it is very gentle and melts away with water so you can control your texture.
Lemon is for deep cleaning of the pores. Removes dirt and oil.
Olive/Sesame Oil is great for moisturizing the skin.
Honey works like a conditioner, and the waxy consistency helps protect skin.

Velvety skin for everyone!!

Why are mini quilts so popular - here are just a few reasons:

I blame the internet for the current mini quilt craze - which has turned out to have more longevity than a simple craft fad. Do It Yourself Hammock !!

Weave construction materials—which won’t fade or absorb water—into a truly comfortable spot for lounging.

1. Cut fencing into two 30×74-inch pieces, trimming the outside squares so that weaving has an edge. Lay out a rectangle with all conduit pieces, attaching elbows to create the “loom.”

2. Overlap both pieces of snow fencing so squares alternate. Lay on floor in center of conduit frame.

3. Unroll cording and mark the middle of each spool. The middle will be your starting point for each row of weaving.

4. Hold the middle of one piece of nylon cording. Loop the middle of cording once around top corner of a 30-inch side of conduit frame. Weave cording in and out of snow fencing going down the long side. Keep tension even.

5. At bottom, repeat loop around conduit and weave back up. Repeat to make four complete passes.

6. Tie off end of nylon cording using a standard square knot (Google it for how-to). Leave 3-4 feet of excess to be used later.

7. Repeat same weaving process on opposite side of snow fencing and in the middle of snow fencing. Weave any additional rows to create desired pattern. Tie all ends with square knots.

8. Cut remaining nylon cording into two 37-foot pieces. Take the center of each and place one at each center of the short sides of your conduit. Wrap one strand of cording around right side of conduit (to secure fencing and hide conduit) and the other strand around left side of conduit. Tie off with a square knot.

9. With all cording tied off, create “triangle” shape at each end (to hang hammock from) by pulling excess cording together at each side evenly, holding cording 1-1½ feet from conduit, and tying into a large knot.

10. Create a second loop knot ½ inch away (so you can hang it). Repeat on the other side.

11. Unscrew metal conduit elbows from frame and remove 74-inch lengths of conduit.

12. Find trees and hang your hammock!

I've been semi busy this weekend so my crafts and ideas have been put on a slight hold.

But I did find these awesome vintage chalkboards.
My head kind of feels blank like they are..
[i think its the weather.. you suck weather!]

The Vintage Chalkboards would be cute for a kitchen to do list..
orrr right over your bed so when you get idea right before you fall asleep
you can remember it when you wake up!

I used to write midnight ideas all over my hands.
But I guess I sweat a lot and the words sort of mush into an ink blob
and my genius ideas are lost until the next night!

my wallet is the black studded number.. holds about 3 dollars and a few pennies.

i carry cards cause i'm that loser that plays solitaire and wishes to meet another card lover.
[i like hands on games. none of that electronic bull.]

i love my sunglasses and i only carry them around in the winter because it brings me hope that the sun will surprise me and i will be ready for him.

lastly my lovely sister's letters. i miss her and love looking at her cute handwriting throughout the day! we have been pen pals for a few months now- its a fun way to keep in touch.

today my skin cells were jumping for joy!
after going grocery shopping i hoped in my car to head home.
i put Don Cavalli in my cd player and needed to just go for a ride.
my fruit was rolling around in the back but i didn't care.
the sun was in my eyes and i loved every second of it.

in florida the sun never phased me.
i didn't know that it was always around.
i wonder why i moved to the cold city of chicago,
but now i believe i can enjoy the sun more than i ever did before.

This was my valentines card to my boy.
I used a white t-shirt and cut out an 8 x 10 piece.
I sewed with red and blue string to make the
white fabric look like a piece of notebook paper.
Its a forever card.. way cooler than Hallmark I think!

diy- how to make a pillowcase

I made these pillows for a Valentines Day present for my boyfriend.
I picked a King and a Castle because he loves chess.
Needlework is very easy and fun!

I got these pillows at Target.. 2 for $7.99- perfect size for couch or bed pillows.
The pillow cases are from a thrift store 2 for $1.50- washed of course!
First step is measuring out the fit of the fabric.

I made pin marks where the pillows line up to and tried to center it.

Don't sew the pillow together yet!
Next.. find a print out of what you'd like to stitch.
It could be a drawing as well.

Draw an outline in a WASHABLE marker.
Any extra details you want to stitch just draw on the pillowcase.

Next you'll need an embroidery loom.
I actually lucked out and got a pack of them at a thrift store for really cheap.
But any craft store should sell them.
Make sure you pull the fabric tight once you line it all up.

And its as simple as hand stitching all around until the outline doesn't show.
Then I threw it in the wash to take the washable marker off.
You can put your pillow together with either a zipper or an over fold.
I made an over fold in the middle of the back.

This is my lil snowman from Christmas in Cleveland. He has little hairs!
We used berries for the nose and buttons.

I was walking to work and found this amazing
SNOW CASTLE its kinda hard to make out
but you can at least see the tools that were used
( a little yellow shovel)

I love the way snow looks with flash..

I have an obsession with the sky and the formation of clouds. I needed some in my room..

I had to scrape the snow off my car 4 times yesterday.. my car (miko) was a good sport!

I started a little project inspired by ColorMeKatie - I wanted to paint the snow with hearts. I used food coloring, water, and a stencil.

If you know me, you probably know I have a thing for Terrariums.

I've been thrifting lately and found this glass vase.
($ 1.99 at Village Discount Thrift Store)
Its thick enough at the top for plants to grow.

The most important thing terrariums need is layers of rock and soil.
Rocks at the base help circulate water so it doesn't just sit at the bottom.

Next add your plant! Succulants are the best (desert plants)
Below is a jade plant.

Empty Patron (tequila) or Oberweis (milk) bottles make a great home for ivy and vines!

Below are a few projects I've been working on...

If you spray perfume in the pine cones, the scent lasts a while.
Not only are they decorations for curtain rods, but smelly ones!

I made these out of old jars (pasta sauce, olive jars, ect.) i just went through magazines and picked out graphics that i liked, and mod podged them to the glass. i use one for make-up brushes; one for in-scents and one for colored pencils.

I just hammered in 2 nails and used shower curtain clips
and attached hemp string to make it a little mobile.

so I used a cardboard box and covered it with

I think it came out pretty cute!

I photographed the sky with a disposibal camera and made them into squares.

Happy New Year

This new years eve I made balloons my accessory.
Plus the full/ blue moon really added to my look.

New years resolution- Get organized. Cute way to arrange important papers or bills by your desk. Found on PoppyTalk.

I started this project when I visted my father in his new house, out in the middle of no where just south of atlanta. we got a tree that was pretty dead and dried out and cut it up into little circles to create some kind of wall piece. I was also thinking of using each little circle as a stand for my Kid Robot toys. This photo below was found on PoppyTalk.

i've been having terrible vivid nightmares of the kids (from nkoronga orphanage).
they keep coming to me crying but i cant hug them because when i do they disappear. ive been waking up covered in sweat, with tears in my eyes.

i feel like im going to go crazy if i dont do something.
i hate the feeling of not being able to do anything.
i feel empty.
i want to do everything for these kids. i love them.

they have been the only thing on my mind these last few weeks.

never seen anything like it.
portland & seattle

just as cool as chicago and i want to maybe move there for a year or an unplanned amount of time. the art scene is pretty happenin. seattle is unreal since the city is practically in the water! too bad the weather if kinda iffy most of the time. portland reminds me of a mini chicago. the people there are a lot more friendly though. in addition to that...

utah & arizona

blew me away. since its a place i never considered going and was one of my favorite out of them all. orange canyons, vibrant blue sky & dynamic white clouds..
sunrises and sunsets were so amazing. i kept thinking someone was going to pull up the backdrop. it was unreal. native americans are beautiful people. too bad we only give them small portions of land to live on. its not like they were here first or anything...

montana & idaho

the land is so delicate looking... but the people there are definitely not. most extremely over-weight. signature amerricka white trash. didn't see too many blacks in this state. probably because its over populated with close minded rednecks. im not trying to stereotype and hate on everyone but i guess its just not my style of living. i need more culture in my life.

lollapalooooooza

i had a crazy weekend. my friend rachel came to visit from ohio.
i haven't seen her in 2 years. we went to lollapalooza.

friday:

i had work until 3ish so i went straight there after. rachel and ava got me in for free. we saw the end of mia shaking her ass. blonde redhead was good of course. the black keys i had never heard before the show but i really liked them. lcd soundsystem was fun everyone was dancing. it was a good audience. but NOT as good as daft punk. we left lcd a little early to get up close for daft punk. i saw the pyramid behind the curtain and was more than excited. i went crazy when i saw them. they remixed there songs. it was amazing... better than amazing!! it was a massive sweaty orgy and everyone was loving it. i was dancing even after the show was over.

before we went to lollapalooza we stopped by eleven diner to get some food. the owner came over and saw rachel and ava's wrist band and asked me where mine was. i said "there going to sneek me in". he reached into his pocket and pulled out a ticket, handed it to me and said "your the cutest girl to come in here without a ticket". so i got in for free without having to sneek!! it was so great. the roots were amazing. the bassist, hub, and guitarist, kirk, played solo's which blew me away. they can mother fucking rock out! quest love, the drummer, was awesome too. at the end he threw his drumsticks and after the two went flying into the audience he pulled more out of his sweater. he had about 10 hiding in there.haha. the yeah yeah yeahs put on a great show too. karen o came out in a crazy cat woman-like costume. she was adorable. probably drunk cause when she talked in between songs she laughed a lot. we were in the middle of a crazy dance/ mosh pit. i got my hair pulled and i was thrown around but it was fun. interpol played last and we hung out in the back area and just danced.

i got there as early as possible. we saw the 1900's who are a chicago band. then we ran to the stage modest mouse was going to play on. we sat threw amy winehouse and iggy and the stooges just to be front row for modest mouse. it was totally worth it. amy had an amazing voice.. better than she sounds on cd.. but she was pretty boring. she didn't move around a lot and her audience was a bunch of prissy girls with brand new marc jacobs glasses and expensive clean clothes. amy winehouse's husband is the hot as fuck. i was taking pictures of him and not her haha. iggy pop is one crazy mother fucker! he's about 60 years old running around like he just snorted an 8 ball. he was kicking camera men in the face and jumping into the audience. then he said "come up on stage with me" and everyone pushed forward. me and laura were getting trampled and people were climbing over us. total there was about 400 people on stage with iggy. there was only suppose to be 30 haha! modest mouse was worth the 6 hour wait. they were fun. issac has a funny voice when he just talks. but they had all the instruments... banjo and accordion. they played city made of ashes so i was happy :) pearl jam's lead singer is old but really sexy. we were so tired after modest mouse so we just sat in the lawn and listened. there was so many people it was ridiculous.
